Birch Aquarium Celebrates 1 Year Of Little Blue Penguins With Contest

SAN DIEGO, CA — Some of the world's smallest penguins have called Birch Aquarium home for nearly a year.

The Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins Exhibit opened July 12, 2022 at Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. It is the only exhibit to feature little blue penguins in the western United States.

Birch Aquarium is celebrating the first anniversary of the exhibit with a photo contest.

Community members are invited to post their favorite photo taken in the exhibit on either Instagram or Facebook, tag Birch Aquarium and use #BirchPenguinPhoto. The caption should include an explanation of why the photo was selected.

The contest closes on July 2. Entrants must be legal residents of the U.S. and at least 18 years old at the time of entry.

Birch Aquarium staff and volunteers will select five winning photos. The winning photos will be posted on official Birch Aquarium social media accounts on July 12 and displayed in the exhibit from July 12-31. Each account that posted a winning photo will receive two general admission tickets to the aquarium.
