SAN DIEGO, CA – The San Diego Blood Bank will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to unveil its mobile blood-donation clinic.

The blood bank's addition of the "bloodmobile," as the organization is calling it, is funded by a donation from Kathryn Starr, the secretary for the Walter J. and Betty C. Zable Foundation. Starr is expected to attend the event along with blood bank CEO David Wellis and representatives from Sharp Healthcare.

According to the blood bank, roughly half of the organization's blood donations around the county come from its mobile blood clinics. The blood bank provides blood to medical facilities throughout the county, with more than 26,000 units going to Sharp Healthcare facilities along each year.
