BMX Star Pat Casey Killed In Crash At Ramona Motocross Track

SAN DIEGO, CA — An X Games star was killed Tuesday at a motocross track in San Diego County.

Patrick "Pat" Michael Casey, 29, of Riverside died after he lost control of the motorcross bike he was riding and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The fatal crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Slayground Motocross Park near the intersection of state Route 78 and Sutherland Dam Road in Ramona. Paramedics tried to revive Casey, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the Medical Examiner's Office said.

Casey won medals at the 2012 and 2013 X Games. He was the first rider to successfully execute elaborate motocross stunts called the "decade backflip" and "double decade backflip" in competition, according to news accounts.

"We are deeply saddened by Pat Casey's passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, parents and siblings," X Games said in a post on Instagram. "A true legend in the action sports community, Pat will always be a member of the X Games family and an inspiration to everyone's life he touched."
