Body Found In Burning Van At Tijuana River Valley Sports Complex

A body was found partially inside a burning van at the Tijuana River Valley Sports Complex.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Firefighters found a body inside a burning van Monday in a parking lot of a sports complex in San Diego, authorities said.

Crews responded to a report of a van fully engulfed in flames at about 11 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Tijuana River Valley Sports Complex at 2687 Sunset Ave., according to the San Diego Police Department. A body was found partially inside the vehicle.

The Metro Arson Strike Team was called to investigate the fire. The department's Homicide Unit was also called "in an abundance of caution" to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, police Lt. Jud Campbell said.

"Due to the state of the body, it is unclear if there is any traumatic injury," Campbell said. "The body is believed to be male, but no other physical details such as age and race can be confirmed until an identification is made."

The vehicle was an older model cargo-style van, however, the color was unclear due to damage from the fire, Campbell said.
