Boy On Dirt Bike Seriously Injured In Ocean Beach Crash

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 47-year-old man driving a 2005 Land Rover LR3 in Ocean Beach struck a 14-year-old boy on an electric off-road dirt bike, causing serious injuries, and the man was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, police said Wednesday.

The crash happened at 7:53 p.m. Tuesday when the driver of the Land Rover, heading southbound in the 1400 block of Ebers Street, struck a boy riding a Talaria electric dirt bike northbound in the 1300 block of Ebers Street, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.

Both the man and boy entered the intersection with Point Loma Avenue, the officer said, and the Land Rover began to make a left turn when the man allegedly struck the boy on the dirt bike, hitting him on the right side. The boy went under the vehicle and was dragged several feet.

The boy sustained a fractured pelvis to both the left and right side, Buttle said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the officer said.
