Building Fire Burns Home, Threatens Others In Dulzura

The blaze broke out near state Route 94 and Community Building Road, according to Cal Fire.

DULZURA, CA – A brush fire with a "dangerous rate of spread" broke out Friday morning in Dulzura, an unincorporated community in San Diego County, amid a heat wave breaking temperature records throughout the region.

One home burned in the blaze, which broke out near state Route 94 and Community Building Road, according to Cal Fire. The flames scorched 10 acres and engulfed the residence before crews were able to halt the fire, which took about 90 minutes.

The blaze, called the Building Fire, was first reported around 10:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. By 4:50 p.m., the fire was 75 percent contained.

The fire sparked amid a record-breaking heat wave in San Diego County. Three other fires broke out Friday in Alpine, Camp Pendleton and Miramar. The county declared a local emergency due to the fires. Gov. Jerry Brown later issued an emergency proclamation for the county due to the West Fire in Alpine, which destroyed homes, threatened infrastructure and caused the evacuation of residents.
