Zarzuela comes to San Diego!
A passionate beauty sways the hearts and political leanings of two men as Spain is torn between monarchy and revolution in Federico Moreno Torroba’s “Luisa Fernanda.”
This fiery yet romantic drama is a great example of Zarzuela, a unique Spanish art form incorporating classical singing as well as spoken words to tell stories of the people. “Luisa Fernanda” was written in 1932, and it has been one of the most beloved Zarzuelas ever since.
Cinballera Entertainment is honoring San Diego’s rich Hispanic history by performing this Zarzuela in concert at the beautiful Villa Montezuma. The production will be performed in costume and with as much staging as possible in the intimate setting of the Villa.
Cinballera’s Season 3 finale also honors its founders’ operatic history. Sisters Tiffany and Rebekah Brannan performed in this opera at ages 12 and 9, their first opera.

This inspiring event brings together supporters, community leaders, and individuals in recovery to celebrate healing and expand access to life-changing treatment services. Hosted by NBC 7 News Anchor Omari Fleming, the luncheon will feature a keynote address from a special guest speaker, remarks from the Miracles of Recovery Awardee, and powerful personal stories that highlight the resilience of those on the path to recovery.

Designed as an intimate and meaningful gathering, the luncheon offers attendees a direct connection to McAlister Institute’s mission and impact across San Diego County. This year also marks a period of exciting growth for the organization, including the introduction of Incidental Medical Services at its Lemon Grove Campus—home to adult detoxification and residential programs such as the Kiva Women &amp; Children’s Learning Center—as well as a major rebrand and plans for a new campus to expand access to care.

This beginner-friendly class offers an introduction to the fundamentals of crochet, taught by self-taught designer CraftedbyT. You will learn the core skills of chaining, single crochet, and double crochet, and how to read simple written patterns, all while enjoying calming herbal tea. The project to be made in class is a granny square to showcase your new skills. All materials are provided, including yarn, hooks, and a booklet. “Where the Heart Belongs” is a one-woman performance by Vietnamese artist Linh Tran, presented at the San Diego International Fringe Festival. Blending poetry, music, dance, and hand-painted visual art, the show transforms the stage into a living gallery--where every movement, costume, and object is an original artwork.
At its heart, the performance is a love letter to her first child, and a tribute to the child she lost--an emotional journey through motherhood, love, loss, and healing.
Some poems are sung live with melodies created on stage, while dance unfolds through improvisation--making each performance unique.
