Select a date: September 20 or November 8, from 9-11:30am This 2.5-hour workshop will advance your skills and you will carve a small bowl. Each student will be provided a wooden blank ready to power carve. The instructor will show how to form a bowl with power carving tools, as well as creating a unique and personal design to implement into each project.
Material fee: $5 payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop.
This is an intermediate Power Carving workshop. Students must have completed either the Intro to Power Carving | Sculptural Art &amp;/or Intro to Power Carving | Carving a Spoon before enrolling in this workshop.
This workshop is appropriate for ages 18 and older. Prior experience is mandatory.

Located above the Flower Fields,<a href="https://artwalksandiego.org/carlsbad/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">ArtWalk Carlsbad</a>is back for its 7th
year, bringing fine art, live music, and interactive art experiences – free to attendees. In a venue overlooking the ocean, guests can explore different facets of art, while enjoying beautiful coastal views.
The weekend-long festival focuses on fine art for sale by local artists, as well as those who travel from all over the U.S. and Mexico to show and sell their work. The event will display every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, glass work, fine jewelry, photography and more. More than 150 fine artists’ work will be featured, along with interactive art for families at KidsWalk, a full palette of musical performers, food trucks and stands, and more. 
This fine art show is part of the ArtWalk San Diego brand known for bringing together all facets of the arts throughout San Diego, while promoting the experience of owning original art. Each of ArtWalk San Diego’s festivals support their non-profit partner, <a href="https://www.artreachsandiego.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">ArtReach San Diego</a>, a nonprofit organization aimed at increasing equity in visual arts education in K-8 schools throughout San Diego County by delivering free or low cost workshops to schools that have no other resources for art, focusing on Title I Schools. 
The event will be fenced, even though admission is free; the fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (to those 21-years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a Beer Garden.

Join ethnographer and musician Yale Strom for an online lecture exploring the deep and fascinating connections between Jewish culture and jazz. Drawing on decades of fieldwork, musicological research and artistic practice, Strom will uncover how Jewish musicians shaped one of America’s most iconic art forms.&nbsp;

Yale Strom is one of the world's leading ethnographer-artists of klezmer and Romani music. He holds a master's degree in Yiddish Studies and has directed 10 award-winning documentary films, including The Last Klezmer (Oscar short-list). He has written 15 books, recorded 20 CDs, and served as Artist-in-Residence in Jewish Studies at San Diego State University from 2006 to 2020.

San Diego Seniors Community Foundation (SDSCF), the firstcommunityfoundationintheUnitedStatesdedicated exclusively to seniors, is holding a special screening of the Saving Claire: The Story of Denying Gravity on September 22.
Why the screening? The goal is to teach older adults to learn how to fall. This may sound silly, it’s not. Over 14 million, or 1 in 4 older adults report falling every year. Falls result in over 3 million emergency department visits and nearly 1 million hospitalizations annually.
Saving Claire is a documentary-style film, by Ames Productions, that follows an older adult's life-changing fall and explores the complex realities of aging and resistance to change.Since the film’s release in September 2019, it has 6 Million views across Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. 
“Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults,” says Paul Downey, Chief Advocacy Officer, San Diego Seniors Community Foundation. “Longevity for older adult to us is paramount. Learning these important skills makes the difference in one’s quality and length of their life.”
The San Diego Seniors Community Foundation has made a commitmenttochangingtheconversationaroundaging toensurethat every older adult can pursue a life filled with purpose, connection, and fulfillment.
The San Diego community including, older adults, seniors, families, service groups, senior communities, and caregivers are invited to come to view this free film (run-time is 39 minutes) on September 22. The goal is to not only help individuals learn these critical skills for themselves but also to educate attendees to go out into the community and share the fall prevention knowledge to help others. The statistics speak for themselves.In 2021, falls caused 38,000 deaths among those age 65+, and emergency departments reported 3 million visits due to older adult falls.
