Child Abuse Suspect Runs Over Man, Flees Scene: San Diego Police

A man was critically injured when he was run over by a vehicle allegedly driven by a woman he confronted for beating a girl, police said.

SAN DIEGO — A 50-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday in the Lincoln Park section of San Diego when he was run over by a vehicle allegedly driven by a woman he confronted for beating a girl in an apartment complex parking lot, police said.

The victim saw the suspect beating an 8-year-old girl about 2:10 p.m. in the 300 block of 47th Street, according to San Diego Police Department Sgt. Michael Tansey.

"The adult female was later identified as 24-year-old Tantrina Spencer-Simmons," Tansey said. "The juvenile was identified as the female's sister."

When the man confronted Spencer-Simmons about the alleged beating, she placed the girl into a Mitsubishi SUV and then got into the driver's seat, Tansey said.

"The male victim called the police about the initial incident and was standing in the parking lot near the vehicle," Tansey said. "The female then rapidly accelerated and intentionally ran over the male victim. The female did not stop after running over the male."

Spencer-Simmons apparently drove the car over the man several times before fleeing, Lt. Ricky Rasada told reporters.

The woman drove east through the parking lot and then south on 47th Street, Tansey said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of "severe and life-threatening injuries" and was in critical condition, according to Tansey.

Spencer-Simmons, who was said to be living in her vehicle, was later arrested in the 4500 block of Market Street, Tansey said.
