Chula Vista Man, Woman Killed In Solo-Vehicle Crash Off I-8 In El Cajon
The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.

EL CAJON, CA — A 25-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from Chula Vista, were killed when their vehicle veered off Interstate 8 and hit a tree in El Cajon, authorities said Wednesday.
The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. Monday. The man was driving a 2023 Jeep Wrangler westbound on I-8, west of Second Street, when the vehicle went down an embankment and caught fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, the agency reported. Their names have not yet been released.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash, and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors.
"Safe roadway navigation requires constant attention and responsible driving decisions," CHP Capt. Michael Monteagudo said in a statement. "Reduce your speed on curves and turns, remain focused behind the wheel, and always drive according to roadway and traffic conditions."
