City Tacos Team To Open New Restaurant At San Diego's Liberty Station

El Punto will feature tacos from the City Tacos menu, along with entrees and shareable dishes.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The team behind City Tacos is set to open El Punto this October at San Diego's Liberty Station.

The family- and dog-friendly restaurant will occupy the former El Jardin and Go Go Amigo space at 2885 Perry Road, Suite 102, in Point Loma.

The 8,800-square-foot restaurant will feature tacos from the City Tacos menu, along with entrees and shareable dishes from Executive Chef Eduardo Baeza. The menu will highlight locally caught seafood, including ceviche, oysters and tiraditos, as well as a kids menu and brunch.

"This is not your traditional Mexican restaurant," group founder Gerry Torres said in a statement.

"El Punto will be decadent, but affordable and casual. There will be something on the menu for everyone, including plenty of healthy options," he added. "The versatile seating areas will accommodate any occasion, including family dinners, date nights, happy hours, group outings, or simply grab-and-go if you’re on the move."

El Punto will offer indoor and covered outdoor dining, with lounge seating and high-top tables with bar stools. The outdoor area will include televisions, while a separate kids area will feature life-size games similar to those at City Tacos' Ocean Beach location.

An enclosed dog park will allow customers' pets to roam and play without leashes.

Diners will be able to order from wait staff, by scanning QR codes at patio tables or at a walk-up counter. The restaurant also will feature a Michelada bar station and container bar, along with cocktails, draft beer and coffee.

Torres and Baeza have worked together for more than 25 years. The two previously worked at Candelas in downtown San Diego, where Torres was a waiter and Baeza was executive chef.

Torres, who was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Diego and Tijuana, opened the first City Tacos in North Park in 2014. The group now has six City Tacos locations.

Baeza, also a Mexico City native, is the executive chef for Torres' restaurants, including Fonda del Barrio in Barrio Logan and Tour de Tapas in La Mesa, and the six City Tacos locations.
