Coast Guard Captures Migrants Off SoCal Coast

The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a boat carrying migrants off the Southern California coast over the weekend.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a boat off the Southern California coast that was transporting nine migrants on Saturday, according to authorities.

Crew members on board the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Ward were patrolling an area about 19 miles offshore from Black's Beach in La Jolla at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday when they encountered a cuddy-cabin vessel "moving at a high rate of speed," according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard crew intercepted and boarded the boat and captured nine people, Mexican nationals described by officials as "aliens." The people were transported to an unnamed Department of Homeland Security agency at Ballast Point, according to the Coast Guard.
