Coast Guard Interdicts 10 People Off Point Loma

The group was detained about 24 miles off the San Diego coast.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard detained 10 people suspected of attempting to enter the United States illegally off the San Diego coast, officials said.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection aircraft spotted a 23-foot cuddy cabin boat traveling north toward the maritime boundary around 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard Cutter Florence Finch intercepted the boat as it crossed the boundary about 24 miles west of Point Loma. A boarding team detained all 10 people without force about 10:40 a.m.

The group was taken to Ballast Point and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
