Coast Guard Stops Boat With 14 Suspected Migrants Off San Diego

The panga-style vessel was stopped about 10 miles southwest of Point Loma, according to USCG officials.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard stopped a boat carrying 14 suspected migrants off the coast of San Diego, officials said.

Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations spotted a panga-style vessel entering U.S. waters around midnight Sunday about 10 miles southwest of Point Loma, according to USCG officials. Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour responded, and the boarding team found 14 individuals aboard the boat.

The suspected migrants said they were from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Columbia, Guatemala and Mexico. They were taken to the Imperial Beach Border Patrol station at Ballast Point for processing, officials said.
