Coast Guard Stops Boat Carrying 14 Migrants Off San Diego

All 14 people aboard claimed Mexican nationality, according to USCG officials.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard stopped a boat carrying 14 suspected migrants off the coast of San Diego, officials said.

The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour detected a vessel at 4:34 p.m. Friday and launched their boarding team to investigate, according to USCG officials.

The cutter's boarding team intercepted 14 people aboard the 20-foot cuddy cabin about 18 miles west of Point Loma, officials said. All of them claimed Mexican nationality.

The boarding team transferred custody of the people to a boat crew from Coast Guard Station San Diego. They were then transferred to Ballast Point and transferred to another U.S. Department of Homeland Security agency for investigation.
