Containment Grows On Dulzura-Area Wildfire That Prompted Evacuation Warnings

DULZURA, CA — Crews worked overnight Wednesday to contain a wildfire that burned thousands of acres and prompted evacuation warnings near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Border 6 Fire has blackened 2,617 acres in a remote, rugged area near Tecate Peak, according to Cal Fire. As of Thursday morning, the fire was 50% contained.

The blaze broke out shortly before 2 p.m. Monday south of Marron Valley Road in the unincorporated Dulzura area, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters on the ground and in the air have worked to contain the blaze in steep, rugged terrain. The fire has not grown since being reported at 2,617 acres around noon Wednesday. The blaze has burned 1,625 acres in the U.S. and 992 acres in Mexico.

Evacuation warnings were lifted Wednesday evening and an overnight shelter at Spring Valley Community Center was closed.

No structural damage or injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
