Coronavirus ​Cases Surpass 5,000 In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus have surpassed 5,000 in San Diego County.

County health officials on Monday reported 139 new cases, bringing the region's total to 5,065. The number of deaths stood at 175. The death toll remained unchanged for the second day in a row.

As of Monday, 390 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized, with 142 in intensive care. An estimated 2,966 people have recovered from the illness in the region since the pandemic started.

Patients have ranged between 3 months to 101 years old, according to Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer.

Wooten reported 63 active outbreaks in the county, with 41 in congregate living facilities traced to 1,344 cases and 89 deaths, and 22 community outbreaks with 232 cases and five deaths.

A total of 82,116 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the county. Of the 2,638 tests reported to the county on Monday, 5 percent were new positive cases. The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive tests was closing in on 5 percent following significant downward trends in positive case percentages.
