Coroner ID's San Diego Man Shot And Killed Sunday In Riverside County

Deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in a vehicle, who was declared dead at a nearby hospital.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego man was identified in a weekend slaying in Riverside County, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was later identified as Ryan White, 43, of San Diego County, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Bureau.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies answered a 911 call to the 31000 block of Neer Street in Homeland, where a caller reported the assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in a vehicle. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies contacted and detained a possible suspect at the scene, later identified as Benjamin Velez, a 40-year-old resident of Homeland. Velez also required medical attention and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The following day, he was booked into Riverside County Jail on suspicion of the crime and held on $1 million bail, awaiting his next court appearance.
