CHULA VISTA, CA — A South Bay woman is seeking the community's help after her parents became seriously ill with COVID-19 during a holiday vacation to Mexico.
Joselyn Arellan of Chula Vista recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her family cover their medical expenses.
On Veterans Day, her parents, Jose and Gloria Arellano, flew from Tijuana to Oaxaca for a two-week vacation. They had already postponed the trip and they didn't want to lose their money, Arellan told 10News San Diego. Her father became sick several days into the trip, followed by her mother a few days later. They both tested positive for COVID-19 at a local hospital.

"It's a vacation, for them, they'll regret forever," Arellan told 10News.
When her father grew sicker, the family contracted an air ambulance to fly him back to San Diego two days before Thanksgiving. He is being treated at the VA Medical Center in La Jolla.

Her mother was released Monday from a hospital in Oaxaca and is now quarantining with her brother, who has also tested positive, at an Airbnb.
As of noon Tuesday, the GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $11,000.
"Anything you can help us with is greatly appreciated even if it's prayers," Arellan wrote on the fundraising platform. "Thank you, everyone, and God be with us."
