Brush Fire Extinguished Off SR-94 In San Diego

The blaze sparked about 9:30 a.m​. near the westbound SR-94 exit to 28th Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A small brush fire sparked alongside State Route 94 in Golden Hill Monday, burning brushy open property near a church and preschool but causing no reported structural damage or injuries before crews got it under control.

The blaze sparked about 9:30 a.m. near the westbound SR-94 exit to 28th Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A motorcycle crash was reported in the same area, according to Caltrans. 10News reported the collision sparked the fire.

Crews were able to quickly halt the spread of the flames, which blackened about an eighth of an acre and sent a heavy column of brown smoke into the air just south of Balboa Park, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.

The right lane was initially blocked on westbound SR-94 west of 25th Street, according to Caltrans. The lane had reopened by 10:53 a.m.
