Crashes Claim Two Lives Over Thanksgiving Weekend In San Diego

Traffic accidents claimed two lives in the San Diego area over the long Thanksgiving weekend, the CHP said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – Traffic accidents claimed two lives in the San Diego area over the long Thanksgiving weekend, twice the toll from a year ago, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

The road fatalities occurred over a 102-hour period beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to the state agency. During the same time span, CHP officers made 65 DUI arrests on local freeways and roads in unincorporated communities.

Statewide, 59 people died in traffic accidents over the period, 17 fewer than last year, and 931 motorists were jailed on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, down from 1,057 over Thanksgiving weekend in 2017, the CHP reported.
