Deaf Dog Rescued From Steep Ravine In San Diego

San Diego Humane Society's emergency response team used safety lines to rappel down into the ravine where Hobo was stuck.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A deaf dog was rescued Monday evening after falling about 100 feet down a steep ravine in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego.

The owners of Hobo, an 8-year-old Australian shepherd, called San Diego Humane Society shortly before 2 p.m. after their dog slipped into the ravine near their home in the 9700 block of Genesee Avenue.

The organization's emergency response team used safety lines to rappel down into the ravine where Hobo was stuck, Humane Society spokeswoman Nina Thompson said.

"It then took five members to cut the dog out of the brush with a saw, in order to free him from the brush, before they could get him back up," Thompson said.

The rescue process took about four hours, Thompson said. After safely rescuing Hobo, the dog was reunited with his owners.
