Driver Killed In Otay Mesa Collision

SAN DIEGO, CA — A motorist was killed Wednesday in a broadside crash in Otay Mesa, authorities reported.

The fatal collision in the 9400 block of Otay Mesa Road occurred shortly after 8 a.m., when the westbound driver tried to make a U-turn from the right-hand lane of the two-lane street, apparently not realizing that a vehicle was traveling in the same direction behind him in the other lane, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The victim, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene, SDPD Officer Sarah Foster said.

No other injuries were reported.
