Driver Killed, Passenger Injured In Rollover Crash On I-15 In North County

ESCONDIDO, CA — A driver was killed and his passenger was seriously injured in a rollover crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 15 in San Diego's North County, authorities said.

The crash happened around 6:35 a.m. on northbound I-15, south of Deer Springs Road in unincorporated Escondido, according to the California Highway Patrol. For reasons still under investigation, a Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 collided into one another.

"The Ford F-150 spun out and came to rest in the center divider, while the Chevrolet veered to the right shoulder where it overturned numerous times, coming to rest upon its wheels on the right shoulder," CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 19-year-old man from Murrieta, died at the scene, Gerber said. His name was withheld pending family notification.

His passenger, a 19-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, Gerber said. She was expected to survive.

The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old man from Descanso, was not injured in the crash.

"Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have played a factor in this collision," Gerber said.

The crash remained under investigation.
