SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – In an effort to curb drunk and drugged driving during Labor Day, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department is cracking down on motorists caught driving under the influence over the holiday weekend.

Deputies will be patrolling communities across the county beginning on Friday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 3. There will also be a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Imperial Beach.

"Impaired driving doesn't just mean alcohol," Sheriff Bill Gore said in a statement. "If you're caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including marijuana, you will spend Labor Day weekend in jail."

The Labor Day weekend patrols and checkpoint are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
