Elderly Man Injured After Crashing Into Tree In San Diego

The crash happened shortly before 5:45 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue, San Diego police Sgt. Ed Zwibel said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – An 83-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries when his car slammed into a street lamp and a tree in the East Village area, police said.

It happened shortly before 5:45 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue, San Diego police Sgt. Ed Zwibel said.

The driver of a four-door Buick sedan was exiting southbound state Route 163 onto 10th Avenue at a high speed when his car veered to the right and jumped the curb before striking a street lamp and a tree, Zwibel said.

"The vehicle came to rest on the tree and did not collide with any other vehicles," Zwibel said.

The driver was transported to a hospital with a broken femur and a broken ankle, Zwibel said. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
