Fire Breaks Out In Garage At University City Home

The fire caused an estimated $300,000 in damage to the structure and $150,000 in damage to contents, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out in the garage of a two-story house in the University City area and caused an estimated $450,000 of damage but no injuries, officials said.

Dispatchers received reports around 6:40 p.m. Thursday of a fire on Millikin Avenue near Regents Road, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Jose Ysea said.

Crews arrived at the scene at 6:45 p.m. and had the flames knocked down in around 15 minutes, Ysea said.

The fire spread from the garage to the first and second stories of the house, prompting the homeowner, who was the only person home, to evacuate along with a dog, SDFD Battalion Chief Lane Woolery said. Crews rescued the homeowner's cat during a secondary search of the house.

No injuries were reported.
