Brush Fire Sparks At MCAS Miramar

By 4 p.m., the fire had blackened about 2.2 acres and was 90 percent contained, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – Firefighters quickly gained control of a brush fire that broke out Monday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, officials said.

The blaze broke out around 1 p.m. on the western side of the base, near northbound Interstate 805, according to base officials. By 4 p.m., the fire had blackened about 2.2 acres and was 90 percent contained. The base initially reported that 4 acres had been burned.

Firefighters from San Diego Fire-Rescue Department assisted the MCAS Miramar Fire Department in battling the flames. There was no danger to Miramar National Cemetery or any structures in the area, officials said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
