Fire Engulfs South Park Garage

The blaze damaged a residential multi-garage structure.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A fire of unknown origin damaged a residential multi-garage structure in a South Park-area neighborhood Thursday.

The non-injury blaze in the 2000 block of 30th Street erupted for unknown reasons shortly after 6:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke issuing from one of the garages, SDFRD Battalion Chief John Fisher told OnSceneTV.

It took the personnel about 10 minutes to subdue the flames.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation. Residents of the neighborhood told firefighters that people sometimes appeared to be living in the garage that caught fire, Fisher said.
