Fire Spreads Through Mountain View-Area Home

Although the residence was considered a vacant home, squatters were inside it when the fire broke out, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A fire that erupted Tuesday in a residential garage in a Mountain View-area neighborhood spread to an abandoned home on the property, causing about $255,000 worth of damage.

The non-injury blaze in the 700 block of South 45th Street erupted for unknown reasons about 7:45 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Although the residence was considered a vacant home, squatters were inside it when the fire broke out, the department reported.

The blaze caused an estimated $225,000 in structural damages and destroyed about $30,000 worth of contents. Its cause was under investigation.
