Flu Cases, Deaths Decline In San Diego County
The San Diego region is among the places across the country that have experienced a particularly high number of cases.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – The number of confirmed influenza cases in San Diego County continued to decline last week, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday.
The number of flu cases totaled 501 last week, compared to 973 two weeks ago.
The number of flu-related deaths also declined: 14 were confirmed last week, 10 of which occurred earlier this season.

Despite the downward trend, county health officials said residents should still protect themselves against infection.
"Influenza activity has slowed down significantly compared to the end of 2017 when the flu season peaked locally," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "While flu activity peaked earlier than in previous seasons, people should continue getting vaccinated since the season is likely to last at least another month, if not longer."

There have been 283 flu-related deaths in the San Diego area this season, compared to 57 at this time last year. There have been 17,375 confirmed cases, compared to 57 at this time last year, according to the county.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone over the age of 6 months be vaccinated. It's not too late to get a flu shot, health officials said.
Vaccines are available at doctors' offices and retail pharmacies. Those without insurance can go to a county public health center to get vaccinated. For a list of locations, visit www.sdiz.org or call 211.
