Heat Wave Prompts San Diego Schools To Extend Minimum-Day Schedules

SAN DIEGO, CA – With a heat wave continuing to scorch the San Diego region, dozens of schools in San Diego Unified School District will be on minimum-day schedules for a third consecutive day Wednesday.

"We are aware that high temperatures are expected (Wednesday), and we want to make sure that our students and staff are as comfortable as possible so that learning can continue," district officials said in a news release.

When temperatures are expected to be 95 degrees or higher with a heat index of 103 degrees or higher, campuses with less than 80 percent of their classrooms air conditioned may be instructed to move to a minimum day schedule, according to the district.
