Hit-And-Run Driver Strikes 2, Police Car On Ocean Beach Pier

A man and woman were injured Tuesday when they were struck on the Ocean Beach Pier by a hit-and-run driver.

SAN DIEGO – A young man and a young woman suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning when they were struck on the Ocean Beach Pier by a hit-and-run driver who also sideswiped a police cruiser as he sped off, police said.

The bizarre series of events began around 1:25 a.m. in the 5000 block of Niagara Avenue, according to San Diego police.

A man drove his vehicle onto the Ocean Beach Pier and struck a 21-year- old man and a 24-year-old woman who were fishing on the pier, Sgt. Joe Ruvido said.

A patrol officer in the area attempted to stop the vehicle, but the motorist sped away and sideswiped an unoccupied police car as he fled the scene, Ruvido said.

The victims were treated for minor injuries at the scene and no officers were injured, the sergeant said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s with a beard and a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt.

His vehicle was described as a black 2005 Acura hatchback with a cracked windshield, lowered suspension and custom wheels.
