Howard Healthcare Academy Reopens For In-Person Classes

SAN DIEGO, CA — Howard Healthcare Academy, the only school in San Diego strictly dedicated to dental programs, has reopened for in-person classes after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Classes are now underway at the school, which was founded by the creators of The Super Dentists.

"We are encouraged at the amount of interest we've seen since reopening in June, but that makes sense, because according to a recent study, 10 percent of college-bound seniors who had planned to enroll at a four-year college before COVID-19 have already made alternative plans," said Dr. Kami Hoss, co-founder of Howard Healthcare Academy and The Super Dentists, the largest pediatric dental practice in San Diego.

Dental assisting is expected to grow by 11 percent between 2018 and 2028, which is a higher rate than many other industries, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor.

"Dental assisting is one of the most stable industries due to the aging population and ongoing research linking oral health and general health, which will lead to continued increases in demand for preventative dental services," Hoss said.

The school's next dental assistant program begins Sept. 28 and has only one space left, while the orthodontic assistant program begins Oct. 3 with just a few spaces left, according to Howard Healthcare Academy. The school has the only registered dental assistant with extended functions program in San Diego. The next RDAEF program begins Jan. 9, 2021.

The school also offers continuing education and the mandatory courses dental staff needs to make sure their state dental licenses are up to date.

Howard Healthcare Academy is at 9737 Aero Drive in the Serra Mesa area of San Diego.
