Investigation Underway into New Border Tunnel

Federal officials confirmed the discovery of a new possible drug tunnel between Mexico and San Diego.

SAN DIEGO - Federal authorities are investigating the discovery of what is believed to be a cross-border drug tunnel between Tijuana and San Diego.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials confirmed the discovery Thursday but did not release any details.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials released a statement saying: "In order to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation and the safety of those involved, HIS (Homeland Security Investigations) San Diego is not providing additional details at this time. Additional information will be provided as soon as it is appropriate to do so."

The investigation is centered around a neighborhood west of the Tijuana airport and near the Otay Mesa neighborhood in San Diego, according to reports.

This is the 13th secret passage found along the California-Mexico border since 2006.
