Knife-Wielding Suspect Killed By Police In Point Loma Home Break-In Shooting

SAN DIEGO, CA — An investigation was underway Wednesday into the fatal shooting by San Diego Police Department officers of a home break-in suspect armed with a knife in Point Loma.

Officers responded to reports of a person armed with a knife around 3:30 p.m. in the backyard of a home in the 2700 block of Nipoma Street, said SDPD Officer John Buttle.

The suspect entered the home and engaged in a standoff with police officers, according to the SDPD. A SWAT team also responded to the scene.

Shots were fired by officers and the suspect died following the shooting, the SDPD said.

No description of the deceased individual was immediately available.

No officers were injured in the shooting, authorities said.
