Man Arrested In Deadly Chicano Park Shooting; Victim Identified

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man suspected in a deadly shooting last week in San Diego has been arrested, authorities said.
Benito Garcia Jr., 31, was arrested at about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 3600 block of Grand Avenue in San Marcos in connection with the fatal shooting of 64-year-old Raul Torres in Chicano Park, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Officers responded around 10:05 p.m. May 6 to an anonymous report of a man shot on a sidewalk in the 2000 block of National Avenue in San Diego, according to police. Police and medics provided medical aid at the scene, but Torres died from his injuries.

The suspect, later identified as Garcia, fled north into Chicano Park, police said. He was booked Tuesday into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
