Man Convicted Of Murder For Fatally Stabbing Dating Partner In San Marcos

VISTA, CA — A man convicted of fatally stabbing his dating partner in San Marcos was awaiting sentencing Monday after being found guilty of first-degree murder.

Ziyah Jay Patterson, 31, was found guilty by a Vista jury last Friday for the Dec. 26, 2023, stabbing of 42-year-old Angela Marie Lanway.

Sheriff's deputies responded at around 10:20 p.m. on the night of the stabbing to the 100 block of North Twin Oaks Valley Road, where they found Lanway suffering from a stab wound, authorities said. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

In addition to the murder conviction, jurors found true an allegation that Patterson used a knife in the killing.

He faces up to 26 years to life in state prison and is due to be sentenced next month.
