Man Fatally Struck By Train In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was hit and killed by a train Sunday in San Diego.

The deadly collision happened at 3:25 p.m. near the intersection of Pacific Highway and West Washington Street, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"When San Diego police officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by a northbound Coaster train," sheriff's Sgt. Jason King said. "Paramedics rushed to give aid, but he did not survive his injuries."

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the man and determine the cause and manner of his death, King said.

The sheriff's department was handling the investigation because the department's Transit Enforcement Unit investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District.
