Man Found Beaten, Stabbed To Death In Bonita Cove Park

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was found beaten and stabbed to death Wednesday in a Mission Beach-area park, authorities reported.

The body of the unidentified man, who appeared to have been a transient in his 40s or 50s, was discovered at Bonita Cove Park in the 900 block of West Mission Bay Drive shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

In addition to stab wounds, the victim had suffered "facial and upper- body injuries that indicated (he) had been beaten," SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said.

Detectives have determined that the man got into a fight with a group of about a half-dozen youths at some point in the early morning, according to police.

"It appears the victim was beaten and stabbed during this physical confrontation," Shebloski said Wednesday afternoon. "Homicide detectives are currently processing the (crime) scene for physical evidence, attempting to locate surveillance video and attempting to locate any witnesses who may be able to provide more detailed descriptions of the (group) or provide additional information on the events leading up to the death of the (man)."
