Pilot Killed In Jet Crash At Marine Corps Air Station Miramar

The pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft, according to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.

SAN DIEGO, CA — The pilot of a military jet that crashed in San Diego has died, officials said.

The F/A-18 Hornet went down shortly before midnight Thursday in the eastern reaches of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, according to officials at MCAS Miramar.

Search and rescue personnel recovered the body of the pilot, who was the only person aboard the aircraft, according to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.

"Search and rescue recovered the U.S. Marine Corps pilot who has been confirmed deceased at the site," officials said in a news release from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. "With a heavy heart, our condolences go to the Marine's family during this time."

The pilot's name was not released. The crash remained under investigation.
