Missing SD Woman's Family Scours California For Answers

CHULA VISTA, CA — Maya Millete, a 39-year-old mother of three, disappeared more than three months ago from her east Chula Vista home. But her loved ones have shown no signs of halting their search for answers.

On Saturday, some 50 family members and friends took to the air, water and land to look for any clues as to what might have happened to her, according to multiple reports. The massive search is part of a weekly effort independent from law enforcement, organized on Facebook by Maya Millete's Search Warriors.

Although the search party has not disclosed the exact search area, friends and family foraged miles of California's heavy vegetation and rugged topography this weekend.

"We're not leaving any stone unturned," Maricris Drouaillet, Millete's sister, told Fox News after the search Saturday. "We're desperate for answers."

Days before she went missing, Millete reportedly warned her family that "if anything happens to me, it would be Larry," referring to her husband, Fox News also reported. He has not been named as a suspect.

Millete's disappearance is a mysterious case, and investigators haven't really known where to look, leaving thousands of miles between California, Arizona and Nevada for search parties to comb.

"We recognize one of the frustrating aspects of May’s disappearance is that there is no specific region or location identified to be searched," Chula Vista police said in a statement last week.

Millete has not answered phone calls or text messages since Jan. 7, according to the Chula Vista Police Department. To date, detectives have conducted 47 interviews of family members, friends, neighbors and witnesses.

Based on early evidence, the department said it has requested assistance from the FBI.

Millete is a civilian contractor for the Navy and has three children.

Next Saturday, the members of the group will pick up the trail where they left off, calling for volunteers to meet at 8 a.m. at a specific location, where they will give volunteers another location of where the search will begin.
