Missing Tourist's Body Found On Mission Beach

Amanda Cruse, a 30-year-old from Arizona, was last seen mid-February near Sunset Cliffs. Her body was found Sunday and identified Tuesday.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A body found Sunday in Mission Beach was identified Tuesday as missing tourist Amanda Cruse, authorities said.

Cruse, 30, arrived in San Diego from Arizona on Feb. 18, when she visited the area of Sunset Cliffs. According to the San Diego Police Department, around 5 a.m. Feb. 19, Cruse traveled back to the area and parked near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Monaco Street.

Officials said Cruse was last seen walking in the direction of Sunset Cliffs. She was reported missing by family members on Feb. 21.

According to a report by NBC 7, SDPD Officer Billy Hernandez said authorities do not know the circumstances of how she went missing. Police said Cruse was known to take photographs and may have been in the area to capture pictures.

The police received a call about 4:45 p.m. Sunday that a body was found on the beach at 3900 Ocean Front Walk in Mission Beach. After arriving to the scene, officers discovered the decomposed body of an adult female.

Due to the condition of the body, the body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and identification. Using dental comparison, officials said, the body was identified as Cruse on Tuesday.
