Motorist Dies In Crash On I-15 In San Diego

A 28-year-old man died when his vehicle struck a freeway sign pole on southbound Interstate 15 just north of state Route 52.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 28-year-old man died Sunday when his vehicle struck a freeway sign pole on southbound Interstate 15 just north of state Route 52.

The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deceased's white Honda sedan veered to the left of the roadway, striking a sign pole, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. The lone occupant of the car died at the scene, the CHP reported.

The cause of the accident is unknown, and is under investigation by the CHP. It was not immediately determined whether drugs or alcohol factored into the accident. A toxicology report was pending with the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
