Mountain Lion Fatally Struck By Vehicle In San Diego County

The crash happened after mountain lion sightings​ were reported throughout the week in Oceanside.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A mountain lion was killed after being struck by a vehicle in northern San Diego County, authorities said over the weekend.

The crash happened around 7:25 p.m. Friday in the area of North River and Wilshire roads in Oceanside, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The crash happened after mountain lion sightings were reported throughout the week in Oceanside. A mountain lion was spotted in the 200 and 300 block of North Coast Highway, the 1100 block of South Coast Highway, and in the area of Rancho Del Oro and state Route 76, according to the department.

"We cannot confirm, at this time, if this is the same mountain lion that was seen previously in the city over the past few days," police said in a news release.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was contacted and responded to conduct an examination of the animal.
