Mountain Lion Spotted In Escondido

Authorities urged the public to stay clear of the area.

ESCONDIDO, CA — A mountain lion was spotted Monday in Escondido, prompting a response from local police and state wildlife officials.

The animal was reported in the 700 block of North Grape Street, according to the Escondido Police Department.

Police were monitoring the mountain lion using ground observation and drone operations. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife also responded to the scene.

"The animals is currently loose but stationary and has not moved from its current location at this time," the department said on social media.

Authorities urged the public to stay clear of the area until further notice as first responders work to safely resolve the situation.
