MVE + Partners Wins Four Gold Nugget Awards, Including a Grand Award

Architecture, planning and interiors firm MVE + Partners (MVE) took home four honors at the 63rd annual Gold Nugget Awards, presented by PCBC and the California Building Industry Association, at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center in Chula Vista. MVE’s honors included a Grand Award for The Residences at Sugar Alley in Salt Lake City, as well as Awards of Merit for PaLi in San Diego’s Hillcrest community, Market Center in Salt Lake City and Rosewood Residences in Los Angeles.

MVE’s wins range from affordable housing and luxury branded residences to high-rise mixed-use and transit-oriented development in two states – an array that reflects the firm's five decades of practice.

"What makes these four wins meaningful is the range: A neighborhood-driven development in San Diego, affordable housing in South Salt Lake, 17 branded residences in Beverly Hills and a mixed-use district in Sugar House. The firm has earned more than 325 Gold Nugget Awards over the course of its history. This year's competition drew 800 entries across 67 categories, judged by the program's Blue Ribbon panel.

Grand Award: The Residences at Sugar Alley
MVE won the Grand Award for “Best Multi-Family Housing Community,” 60-100 dwelling units per acre, for The Residences at Sugar Alley in Salt Lake City's Sugar House district. Designed for Lowe Property Group and Eight Bay Development, the 1.3-acre project pairs 193 units and 17,000 square feet of retail with its namesake "Alley," a pedestrian corridor linking light rail to neighborhood shops. Brick and steel-window detailing nods to the area's sugar manufacturing past, and a third-level pool deck frames Wasatch Range views.

Award of Merit: PaLi
PaLi earned an Award of Merit for “Best Mixed-Use Project, On the Boards.” Rising 21 stories above San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood for developer REDA Residential, the tower draws its faceted form from the precision of a cut diamond, with terraced balconies and elevated gardens that echo a Southern California aesthetic. The design includes 206 residences, 2,400 square feet of street-level retail, a corner plaza and a sixth-floor amenity podium.

Award of Merit: Market Center
Market Center earned an Award of Merit for “Best Affordable Housing Community, On the Boards.” Developed by Blaser Ventures, the 5.5-acre project along State Street in South Salt Lake will bring nearly 500 homes affordable at or below 60% of area median income, plus roughly 20,000 square feet of retail. Three mid-rise buildings and interblock walkways sit steps from the TRAX S-Line streetcar.

Award of Merit: Rosewood Residences
Rosewood Residences received an Award of Merit for Best Multi-Family Housing Community. The four-story boutique building on South Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills houses 17 spacious branded residences for Nahla Capital, ranging from 3,000 to more than 7,000 square feet. Amenities include a rooftop pool and spa, fitness center and indoor-outdoor lounge, plus ground-floor retail along the Boulevard.
