October Is 'Kids Free' Month At San Diego Zoo, Safari Park

The annual "Kids Free" month ​offers free admission to children ages 11 and younger at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

SAN DIEGO, CA – Kids receive free admission in October at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The annual "Kids Free" month, presented by Mission Fed, offers free admission to children ages 11 and younger, as well as special weekend activities for the whole family, including animal experiences, special entertainment and zoo keeper talks.

At the San Diego Zoo, kids can see "Beast Treats" experiences, participate in a coloring contest and meet Dr. Zoolittle and the Zoo Characters. Zoo Corps teens will present "Discovery Stations" stocked with artifacts, props, biofacts and things to do, while animal ambassadors will educate and entertain guests.

HalGLOWeen, the zoo's glowing Halloween event, will return this year during Kids Free month. Starting Oct. 11 – on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening until Halloween – the park will glow under black light, with fun activities for all ages. HalGLOWeen entertainment will include a bubble dance party, a cupcake walk, performers, special animal experiences and more. Kids can wear costumes for this event.

At the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, children and their families can come face-to-face with animal ambassadors and enjoy a variety of keeper talks on weekends in October. There will be a variety of entertainment, including magic, mariachis, dancers, stilt walkers and an interactive puppet theater. This year, the Safari Park will also extend free admission for kids through the first three days in November in celebration of Día de los Muertos.

The San Diego Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except during HalGLOWeen festivities, when the park will close at 9 p.m. The Safari Park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and until 6 p.m. on weekends.

Children younger than 15 must be accompanied by a paid adult during their visit to the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park.
