One Hospitalized, One Arrested On Suspicion Of Arson In SD Fire

An apartment fire in San Diego that displaced eight people and hospitalized one was being investigated as arson, authorities said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — At least eight people were displaced and one person was hospitalized in a San Diego apartment fire that was being investigated Monday morning as arson.

One person was taken into custody after he reportedly told investigators that he started the fire, officials said. He was not publicly identified.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at an apartment complex at 4095 Highland Ave. around 1:30 a.m., the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported. Paramedics took one person who suffered from burns to a local hospital in critical condition, officials reported.

At least eight people required assistance from Red Cross for temporarily housing. It was not immediately clear how many units were impacted by the blaze, which inflicted an estimated $225,000 of damage.

Multiple crews responded, including at least 50 emergency personnel. No other information was released.
