DEL MAR, CA — More than 600 San Diego County residents are featured on over 1,000 banners displayed across 25 communities this summer as part of the San Diego County Fair's annual Community Banner Program.

The banners, which began appearing in May, are displayed in eight cities, including Chula Vista, Escondido, Lemon Grove, National City, Oceanside, San Diego, Solana Beach and Vista. The program is designed to promote the fair and highlight local communities.

The fair has partnered with business improvement districts, chambers of commerce, and local governments on the program since 2011. Participating organizations recruit community members for photo sessions, while the fair provides photography, banner design, printing and installation.

This year's banners reflect the fair's "Once Upon A Fair" theme. In addition to being displayed throughout the county, banners representing each community are featured inside the Paddock at the Del Mar Fairgrounds during the fair's 20-day run.

"What began as a community outreach effort 15 years ago is now a fun tradition that literally hundreds of people look forward to each year," said Katie Mueller, chief operations officer of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which produces the San Diego County Fair.
